Hello Poets and Poetry Enthusiasts!

Poets will have the opportunity to showcase their talents at several upcoming poetry slams to earn points towards the standings!  These events provide a platform for poets to express themselves and connect with others who share their passion for spoken word poetry through some friendly competition. 

The next hybrid poetry slam event hosted by Steel City Slam will take place on April 12, 2023  at PA Market in the Strip District. The event is open to all poets, whether they are experienced performers or just starting out. Poets will have the opportunity to share their work in front of a live audience and compete for a chance to win prizes!  This slam will also feature Love, Stars, and Paradigms by Swarn Gill

Swarn Gill has always had his head in the clouds. It led him to share this passion by teaching the next generation about phenomena of the sky in the field of meteorology. However, when he emerged from graduate school he realized that there were more wonders to explore than just the weather and found himself lost in thought, pondering the mysteries of love, life, and the human condition. As a scientist he finds as much beauty and inspiration in what we know as he does in what we don’t. Coupled with his love of language as a medium for artful expression and the exploration of feeling, poetry always just felt natural to him. He lives in Pennsylvania with his wife, two sons, and too many cats.

Liner Notes is also back in full force with the next showcase taking place on April 25, 2023! We welcome Cheney Maxine to our leadership team while we all write to Modest Mouse – We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. Liner Notes poems get 2 points towards the standings and you can sign up by completing this Google form.

There are also slams May 17, 2023 and the Last Chance Slam on June 14, 2023 at PA Market in the Strip district at 7PM. These events feature performances by both established and emerging poets from the local area and an open mic. 

All the events promise to be exciting and inspiring for ball and will culminate in the top 12 poets in the [updated!!!] standings being invited to participate in THE GRAND SLAM at City of Asylum in the Northside Tuesday, July 11! TICKETS FACEBOOK

Admission to hybrid slams at PA Market is a $5 donation at the door and grand slam tickets will still be $10 via eventbrite. We are still meeting on Zoom during the other weeks’ Tuesdays too!! Event info is always available on the Events page at pghpoetry.org
